The BBS E88 is one of those wheels that needs very little introduction among Porsche and motorsport enthusiasts. Developed as a genuine BBS Motorsport race wheel, its three-piece construction, back-milled forged centre and distinctive cross-spoke design have made the E88 a benchmark for track-focused Porsche 911 applications.

This particular set was configured for the Porsche 991 GT3 and finished with satin black centres and polished rim sections. The contrast makes the construction of the E88 especially visible: the centre, exposed hardware and deep polished outer sections each remain clearly defined.

More importantly, this is not simply a visual upgrade. The E88 comes directly from the BBS Motorsport programme and was engineered around the requirements of racing. For the 991 GT3, that makes it one of the most interesting alternatives to the original Porsche centerlock wheels.

BBS E88 fitment for the Porsche 991 GT3

The Porsche 991 GT3 uses Porsche's factory centerlock system, so wheel selection is more specialised than on a conventional five-lug 911. BBS Motorsport produces the E88 in centerlock configurations, which makes it particularly suitable for GT3 applications.

For the Porsche 991 GT3, our established 19-inch BBS E88 configuration is:

Position Wheel Offset Mounting
Front 9.5 x 19" ET41 Porsche centerlock
Rear 12.5 x 19" ET42 Porsche centerlock

This configuration retains a purposeful motorsport stance while being designed around the geometry, brakes and factory centerlock system of the 991 GT3. Because the E88 is modular, the relationship between wheel width, offset and rim section can be configured much more precisely than with a conventional one-piece wheel.

On this application, additional rear clearance is created by replacing the relevant lower control arm bolt with Porsche Motorsport bolt 999-073-530-01. It is an important detail when installing a 19-inch E88 setup correctly on the 991 GT3.

What makes the BBS E88 a genuine Motorsport wheel?

It is easy to describe the E88 simply as a forged wheel, but technically there is more to its construction. The E88 uses a forged aluminium centre with material removed from the rear of the spokes, combined with separate heat-treated spun aluminium rim sections.

This creates the characteristic three-piece construction of the E88. Rather than manufacturing the complete wheel as one component, BBS Motorsport combines the centre with separate inner and outer rim sections. Different rim section dimensions can therefore be used to create specific widths and offsets for different racing and vehicle applications.

BBS Motorsport offers modular rim sections in half-inch increments across its three-piece racing programme. That modularity is one of the reasons the E88 can be configured so precisely for cars such as the Porsche 997 GT3, Porsche 991 GT3 and various BMW M applications.

Why the BBS E88 works so well on the 991 GT3

The 991 GT3 already has a very clear motorsport identity. Large brakes, centerlock hubs, rear-wheel steering and a chassis developed around track performance mean that an aftermarket wheel needs to look appropriate, but more importantly it needs to be engineered for the application.

This is where the E88 feels particularly natural on the GT3. The design did not originate as a styling wheel that was later adapted to performance cars. Its construction comes from BBS Motorsport, and the visual language follows its function.

The thin cross-spokes expose the braking system, while the polished rim sections make the wheel diameter and width visually clear. On a 991 GT3, the result feels period-correct without making the car look older. It is one of the reasons the E88 remains relevant across several generations of Porsche GT cars.

Satin black centres with polished rims

Finish has a surprisingly large influence on how an E88 looks. Silver and gold are closely associated with traditional BBS Motorsport wheels, but satin black creates a very different character.

With a dark centre, the spoke pattern becomes more understated while the polished rim remains highly visible. The contrast also emphasises the depth of the wheel and the separate three-piece construction. Red BBS rim decals and exposed assembly hardware provide small motorsport details without overpowering the design.

For a Porsche 991 GT3, especially in a restrained exterior colour, this is one of our favourite E88 configurations. It keeps the unmistakable BBS appearance while making the overall setup slightly more purposeful.

BBS E88 versus a conventional road wheel

The distinction matters. The E88 belongs to the BBS Motorsport racing programme rather than the normal BBS road-wheel range. BBS specifies the E88 as a race wheel and its construction reflects that purpose.

Compared with a conventional road wheel, a three-piece Motorsport wheel gives significantly more freedom to optimise width, offset and rim section dimensions for a specific application. It also means individual wheel components form part of the construction rather than the complete wheel being produced as a single casting or forging.

For a Porsche GT car, that engineering background is a major part of the appeal. An E88 does not merely reproduce the appearance of a motorsport wheel; it is part of the actual BBS Motorsport programme.

BBS Motorsport expertise at BaanVelgen

BaanVelgen has worked with performance and forged wheels for Porsche, BMW and other high-performance applications for many years. With BBS Motorsport in particular, correct fitment involves more than selecting a diameter and an offset.

Centerlock compatibility, brake clearance, inner suspension clearance, tyre choice and the intended use of the car all need to be considered together. This becomes even more important with modular wheels such as the E88, where several configurations can look similar on paper but behave very differently on the car.

From our base in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, we supply BBS Motorsport wheels worldwide and can help configure the correct E88, E07 or other BBS Motorsport application for your Porsche.

BBS E88 Porsche 991 GT3 FAQ

Do BBS E88 wheels fit the Porsche 991 GT3?

Yes. The BBS E88 is available in a 19-inch centerlock configuration for the Porsche 991 GT3. BaanVelgen's established application uses 9.5 x 19 ET41 front wheels and 12.5 x 19 ET42 rear wheels.

What size BBS E88 should I use on a Porsche 991 GT3?

Our Porsche 991 GT3 E88 setup uses 9.5 x 19 ET41 at the front and 12.5 x 19 ET42 at the rear. Exact suitability should always be checked against the specific car, suspension configuration, brakes, alignment and intended tyre sizes.

Are BBS E88 wheels forged?

The E88 uses a forged aluminium centre with back-milled spokes. This centre is combined with separate heat-treated spun aluminium rim sections to create the three-piece wheel. Calling the E88 simply a forged wheel therefore does not describe its full construction.

Is the BBS E88 a three-piece wheel?

Yes. The BBS E88 is a modular three-piece Motorsport wheel consisting of a centre and separate inner and outer rim sections. This construction allows different widths and offsets to be created for specific vehicle and racing applications.

Does the BBS E88 work with the Porsche 991 GT3 centerlock system?

Yes. BBS manufactures the E88 in centerlock configurations, including applications suitable for Porsche GT models such as the 991 GT3.

Is any modification required when fitting 19-inch BBS E88 wheels to the 991 GT3?

For the BaanVelgen 19-inch 991 GT3 E88 configuration, the rear lower control arm bolt is replaced with Porsche Motorsport bolt 999-073-530-01 to provide the required additional clearance.

Are BBS E88 wheels intended for road or track use?

The E88 is part of the BBS Motorsport racing programme and BBS classifies the wheel as a track-use-only product. Road approval and registration requirements differ by country, so local regulations should always be checked before using Motorsport wheels on public roads.

Can BaanVelgen ship BBS E88 wheels internationally?

Yes. BaanVelgen supplies BBS Motorsport wheels from the Netherlands to customers worldwide. We can also assist with the correct Porsche application, wheel specification, finish and tyre setup before ordering.
