The Akrapovič exhaust for the BMW M2 G87 has become one of the most complete exhaust upgrades available for BMW's current compact M car. Its titanium construction, valve-controlled sound and substantial weight reduction make the Slip-On Line equally suited to a road-driven M2 and a more focused performance build.
With the arrival of the BMW M2 CS G87, Akrapovič has added a separate ECE-approved Slip-On reference for the CS. This creates an important distinction for anyone ordering an exhaust today: the regular BMW M2 uses S-BM/T/34H, while the BMW M2 CS uses the new S-BM/T/39H.
The exhaust hardware itself is physically the same design, but Akrapovič assigns the M2 CS its own product reference and homologation. In this guide we explain the difference, the ECE approval, available tailpipes, Evolution Link Pipe and which Akrapovič configuration makes the most sense for your G87.
Akrapovič exhaust for the BMW M2 G87 and M2 CS
Both versions of the current M2 use BMW's 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged S58 straight-six engine, but Akrapovič now separates the exhaust application into two references.
| BMW M2 G87 | BMW M2 CS G87 | |
|---|---|---|
| Akrapovič part number | S-BM/T/34H | S-BM/T/39H |
| Construction | High-grade titanium | High-grade titanium |
| Power gain | +3.9 kW / +5.3 hp | +3.9 kW / +5.3 hp |
| Torque gain | +13.5 Nm | +13.5 Nm |
| Weight saving | 7.3 kg / 32.7% | 7.3 kg / 32.7% |
| ECU remap required | No | No |
| ECE type approval | Yes, approved OPF/GPF configuration | Yes, approved OPF/GPF configuration |
The important point is therefore not that the M2 CS received a completely redesigned rear exhaust. Instead, Akrapovič created a dedicated product reference and homologation for the CS. This allows the correct exhaust and corresponding ECE documentation to be supplied for each version of the G87.
S-BM/T/34H: Akrapovič Slip-On Line for the BMW M2 G87
For the regular BMW M2 G87, the correct Slip-On Line reference is S-BM/T/34H. The system is manufactured entirely from high-grade titanium and replaces the factory rear exhaust section.
Akrapovič uses two exhaust valves, one on either side of the muffler, together with two acoustic reflectors. The valve housings and collectors are produced in Akrapovič's own titanium foundry.
Compared with the standard rear exhaust, the Slip-On saves 7.3 kg, or 32.7%. Akrapovič dyno testing also recorded an increase of 3.9 kW / 5.3 hp and 13.5 Nm at 2,800 rpm.
No ECU remapping is required when the Slip-On is used in its standard configuration.

S-BM/T/39H: Akrapovič Slip-On Line for the BMW M2 CS
The new S-BM/T/39H is the Akrapovič Slip-On Line specified for the BMW M2 CS G87. It follows the same titanium construction and acoustic concept as the regular G87 system, but carries its own M2 CS application and homologation.
This distinction matters particularly for European owners. Although the exhaust hardware is physically the same, ordering the correct CS-specific reference means the system is supplied under the correct Akrapovič application for the BMW M2 CS.
Akrapovič specifies the same 7.3 kg weight reduction, 3.9 kW / 5.3 hp power increase and 13.5 Nm torque gain for the M2 CS system.

Is the Akrapovič BMW M2 exhaust ECE approved?
Yes. Both the correct G87 M2 Slip-On application and the new M2 CS Slip-On are ECE type approved when installed in their approved configuration on vehicles equipped with an OPF/GPF gasoline particulate filter.
This makes the Slip-On Line the most logical Akrapovič configuration for European customers who want more sound and less weight while retaining the benefit of an approved road configuration.
ECE approval applies to the complete approved configuration. Installing optional components such as the Evolution Link Pipe, aftermarket downpipes or Akrapovič Sound Kit changes that configuration and means the ECE type approval of the Slip-On is no longer valid.
How does the Akrapovič exhaust change the sound of the G87 M2?
The difference between the factory system and the Akrapovič Slip-On is about more than exhaust volume. Akrapovič developed the system around the character of BMW's turbocharged S58 straight-six, using the two valves and acoustic reflectors to create different sound characteristics depending on engine load and driving style.
During normal cruising, the system remains smooth and controlled. When the car is driven harder, the exhaust develops a deeper and more pronounced tone that gives the S58 considerably more presence.
This dual character is particularly important on the G87. Both the regular M2 and M2 CS are cars that can be driven every day, so an exhaust that is constantly loud or produces unwanted drone would quickly compromise one of their strengths.
The Akrapovič control kit works together with the exhaust valves to provide the intended balance between refinement and a much more engaging sound when driving dynamically.
Which Akrapovič tailpipes are available for the M2 G87?
The tailpipes are ordered separately from the Slip-On Line and are a mandatory component of the Akrapovič rear exhaust system.
Three compatible carbon-fibre tailpipe sets are available:
- TP-CT/68 – classic carbon-fibre tailpipe design
- TP-CT/69 – distinctive octagonal carbon-fibre design
- TP-CT/73/CF – chopped carbon-fibre design
The choice is primarily aesthetic. It does not change the fundamental performance of the Slip-On Line, so the best option depends on how you want the rear of the M2 to look.
Octagonal Akrapovič carbon tailpipes
The octagonal design is the most recognisable of the current Akrapovič options. First introduced on the current-generation BMW M3 and M4, its more angular profile gives the G87 a noticeably different appearance from the standard round outlets.
Classic Akrapovič carbon tailpipes
For owners who prefer something closer to the traditional BMW M exhaust layout, Akrapovič also offers its more conventional carbon-fibre outlet. It retains the four-outlet appearance of the M2 while adding larger outlets, titanium inner sections and hand-crafted carbon-fibre sleeves.
Slip-On or Evolution Link Pipe: which setup should you choose?
The Slip-On Line is only the starting point of the Akrapovič G87 exhaust range. For customers looking for a considerably more aggressive setup, the system can be combined with the Evolution Link Pipe Set.
The titanium long Evolution Link Pipe, reference E-BM/T/12, replaces the centre section and removes the secondary catalytic converters. It includes a resonator and is designed to work together with the Slip-On Line.
| Slip-On Line | Slip-On + Evolution Link Pipe | |
|---|---|---|
| Sound | Deeper, sportier and road focused | Significantly louder and more intense |
| Power gain | +3.9 kW / +5.3 hp | Up to +13.4 kW / +18.2 hp* |
| Torque gain | +13.5 Nm | Up to +21.9 Nm* |
| ECU remap | Not required | Mandatory |
| ECE-approved configuration | Yes, where applicable | No |
| Recommended use | Road | Racetrack / closed course |

Akrapovič Evolution Link Pipe for the BMW M2 G87
The titanium E-BM/T/12 Evolution Link Pipe is constructed from high-grade titanium and saves approximately 8.4 kg compared with the corresponding factory centre section.
When tested together with the Slip-On Line on an OPF/GPF-equipped BMW M2, Akrapovič recorded a maximum increase of 13.4 kW / 18.2 hp and 21.9 Nm compared with the standard exhaust system.
The difference in sound is substantial. Removing more restriction from the centre section allows the S58 to become much more prominent, while the resonator is designed to maintain a clean exhaust note without unwanted drone.
There is an important trade-off: Akrapovič specifies ECU remapping as mandatory with the Evolution Link Pipe, and the titanium long link pipe is intended for racetrack and closed-course use rather than an ECE-approved road configuration.
Akrapovič also lists the Evolution Link Pipe as compatible with the M2 CS, making it possible to take the CS beyond the ECE-approved Slip-On setup when the intended use of the car allows it.

What about Akrapovič downpipes?
For a more extensive performance build, Akrapovič also offers optional downpipes for the G87 M2. These can be combined with the factory exhaust or with an Akrapovič system, depending on the intended configuration.
Downpipes move the car another step away from the ECE-approved Slip-On setup. They are therefore most relevant for dedicated performance and closed-course applications where maximum sound and tuning potential take priority over road homologation.

Does the BMW M2 CS use the same Akrapovič exhaust as the regular M2?
Physically, the exhaust design is the same, but Akrapovič assigns different part numbers to the two applications. The regular BMW M2 G87 uses S-BM/T/34H, while the BMW M2 CS G87 uses S-BM/T/39H.
The separate CS reference is important because it provides the correct application and homologation for the M2 CS. For that reason we recommend ordering the system specified for the exact version of the car rather than selecting solely on physical fitment.
Does the Akrapovič Slip-On require an ECU tune?
No. Neither the standard G87 M2 Slip-On nor the M2 CS Slip-On requires ECU remapping when installed as the standalone rear exhaust system.
A remap becomes necessary when moving to the titanium Evolution Link Pipe configuration. This distinction makes the Slip-On particularly attractive for a road car because it can be installed as a self-contained upgrade without changing the engine software.
Which Akrapovič setup is best for the BMW M2?
For most road-driven BMW M2 and M2 CS models, we would start with the Slip-On Line Titanium. It provides a substantial reduction in weight, a more engaging exhaust sound and retains the possibility of an ECE-approved configuration on the applicable OPF/GPF vehicle.
The Evolution Link Pipe makes sense when sound and performance become a higher priority than road homologation. The change is considerably more dramatic, but it also brings the requirement for ECU remapping and changes the legal status of the complete exhaust configuration.
The modular layout means an owner does not need to make that decision immediately. You can start with the Slip-On Line and later extend the system if the use of the car changes.
